Today's Cannabis Success proves the ‘20s are still Roaring

A hundred years after perhaps the most transformative decade in U.S. history, we now celebrate the new Roaring 20s: a new era of widespread cannabis acceptance and prosperity.

Our Roaring 420s party was a delightful evening of jazz, jive, and jubilation transpired as we gathered to celebrate the most splendid of herbs – cannabis.

In partnership with the grandest herbal apothecary The Bohemian Chemist, our distinguished guests donned their finest Roaring 20s attire and joined us in celebrating the future outlook of the cannabis industry and how far we’ve come since prohibition.

With the most breathtaking views of the Bay that Shack15 has to offer, we swayed to the dulcet tunes of jazz pianist Jonathan Crawford, followed by the soul-stirring melodies of saxophonist Noah Rosen.

The event was a roaring success, co-presented by The Bohemian Chemist—an herbal apothecary and spa inspired by vintage apothecaries of yesteryear—and us — ONA.life, a boutique cannabis concierge delivering the highest quality strains, edibles, and cannabis methods to suit your lifestyle. Guests indulged in drinks and snacks, sipping fine wines generously provided by MacRostie Winery and Markham Winery & Vineyards.

The turnout was tremendous, and the revelry will be remembered as an exceptional tribute to the thriving cannabis culture of the 2020s.

A Brief History of Cannabis Culture in the 1920s

During the 1920s, alcohol use was stigmatized and ushered in the Prohibition Era, a period when alcoholic beverages were banned in the United States. This ban helped bring cannabis to center stage in the mid-1920s as an alternative and a majestic herbal plant with many physical and psychoactive benefits. It helped that some of the country’s best cannabis advocates were popular Jazz musicians, such as Louis Armstrong, who regularly professed his adoration for the plant.

In fact, one of his most popular songs in 1930 was titled “Song of the Vipers,” a reference to the hissing noise jazz musicians made when taking a drag of a cannabis joint. Armstrong, like many musicians, believed cannabis enhanced their sound, creativity, and connection to the bustling tunes they were releasing.

Although cannabis and jazz grew in popularity together, politically-fueled smear campaigns around cannabis led to its eventual prohibition by the late 1930s.

Cannabis in California Today

California has been a trailblazer in modern cannabis acceptance. In 1996, the state made history as the first in the nation to legalize medical cannabis. Then in 2016, it took the monumental step of legalizing recreational use for adults.

Northern California, in particular, has been at the forefront of the new cannabis renaissance, with regions like the Emerald Triangle and Anderson Valley providing an optimal environment for cultivating high-quality cannabis products and small businesses.

California has witnessed the incredible success that comes with embracing the cannabis industry. Legalization and subsequent regulation have generated billions in tax revenue, created tens of thousands of jobs, and opened new avenues for research and innovation. The once-stigmatized plant now makes significant contributions to the state's economy and improves the quality of life for its residents.

As we continue to celebrate the progress made in the 2020s, we recognize that the journey toward a more inclusive and equitable cannabis industry is still ongoing. By learning from our past and understanding the lessons of the Prohibition era, we can ensure a bright and prosperous future for cannabis in California while celebrating the success we experience today.
